Deluxe Fontmaster ST
These instructions make it possible for you to learn all
functions, that the fontmaster has to offer.
On the disk should be at least following programs:
MAKE.PRG
USE.PRG
ROCKWELL.FNT
ROCKBOLE.FNT
ARABIAN.FNT
INVERS.FNT
SCRIPT.FNT
Should you find more programs on the disk is this only to your ad-
vantage.
The Editor
Start the program with edit.prg. on the left side of the monitor
appears a roster, on the right side a menuebox. In the middle
appears a number-field.
If you want to construct a new alphabet do as follows:
Click the new desired letter with the mouse, make a new letter in
the roster on your left side by makeing dots with your left
mousekey and by erasing them with your right mousekey.
When the letter is finished, you have to decide how wide you
want your letter by clicking the breiter-box. In the small
box below the roster you can check how wide the letter will
ultimately be. After you're done, you can press the replace-box
and save the new letter. This way you can construct a whole new
alphabet.
Testexpressions
Press the Epson-/IBM-box and deterrmine the printingtype you want
to use. Testexpressions can then be done by one letter, by
clicking the test-box. If you want to look at the whole new
alphabet, press the alphabet-box. Of course the printer has to be
ready.
If you want to save the new alphabet you just press the font
Sichern-Box (SAVING-BOX) and include a name that you end with
return.
Loading and Editing
If you want to edit an existing printing set, click with your
mouse your font Laden-Box. In the middle of the monitor you see a
window that looks like your regular load window. With the lower
boxes A to D can the disk-drive and a disk change be manipulated
(Ex. in disk drive A can, by pressing the A-box, the new directory
can be loaded. Use the arrows to scroll the directory. Files are
marked with the "#"-sign. They open with one click. Close them by
pressing the right mousekey; The mousedial has to be within the
box but outside of the program names. If you want to interrupt,
you can click the mousekey once outside of the load-box. You can
load an existing printing set by clicking it's name. NOTICE: The
program does not control anything (Does not know that it is a
printing set) Therefore you have to make sure that you click the
right file. After loading the printing set, the new letters will
be changed by finding the right letter in the letter-box and then
by pressing the Edit-Box. In the roster you can see the existing
shape of the letter. You can edit according to the method
described above. When you're done editing the letter, press the
Replace-Box, otherwise it will not be accepted by the program.
After the construction of a new alphabet you can save it to a
disk. See instructions above!
Other Functions
X-Mirror reflects on the Y-Axis
Y-Mirror reflects on the X-Axis
Up, Down, Left, Right, moves one dot-width in the desired
direction. X: Y: gives you the position of the mouse inside the
roster. Erase: Erases by pressing both mouse-keys simultaneously.
Using Writing Styles
Load program USE.PRG. You see a table on the left side and a box
with commands on the right. If you want to load a text, that
appears as ASCII-File, press the ASCII-box in order to load the
text. Afterwards you have to at least load one writing style by
clicking the add Font-Box. You can load up to Ten different
writing styles. You can use them all together in one text. Every
writing variation gets a number between 0 and 9 (You can see that
in the list). It is needed for later editing the text. You can
also see the name of the loaded text in the list.
Edit the Text
After loading the text and writing style you can further
manipulate the layout of the text. Press the Minitext-Box and you
enter a text editor; It can also be used as a simple Textwork
program. Specialities: The editor shows exactly the amount of
lines that would fit on a sheet of paper. The amount of line-
numbers can be programmed through the main menu by pressing the
Zeilen-Box (Letter-Box). The range has to be between 10 and 99
lines. On the left side there is a three-part section used to do
the text layout. ABC!XXX!YYY!.....
A: Number of writing style you want for the line
B: Line layout:
0: Left justified, no matter how broad the line is
1: Centered, Dot-width in XXX is important for printing-width
2: Right justified, the right side is in the XXX given Dot-
width
3: Right and Left sides are even (Block Set)
4: Left justified, but the Dot-width in XXX is important for
the text-width in the line
C: Tells you how big the letters should be
0: Normal
1: Double the size
XXX: Dot-width of the text should be between 400 and 800 Dots, 960
is the maximum for normal printing
YYY: Left side: You can make adjustments, like width (Letters
should be 150 to 200 Dots), lists are usually 0
If you want to change the writing style within a line (Emphasis on
S.TH.), you can do that. Before the word, whose style you want
changed, you set the "TILDE" with the number of the writing style,
afterwards you have to pick the original writing style again or
the whole line will be printed in the new style.
Saving an edited text
After you have finished the layout of a new text, you can save it
by pressing the F9-Key. If you want to reload an already edited
text, you press the F10-Key and load the desired text. In the
main menu you have the option to save the text as ASCII-File, but
you will lose all parameters.
Printing a Text
After you have finished the layout and saved the text, you are
ready to print. Press the 'ESC'-Key to get out of the minitext-
mode and into the main menu. With help of the mouse you can
manipulate the printing type, the type of paper, and the length of
the paper (Normally 12 in.) by pressing the Drucken-Box (Printing-
Box) you start printing. It has to be ready of course. You can
stop the printing process anytime by pressing any key but the line
will finish printing before stopping.
It helps to experiment a little at first. Try some texts before
you do serious jobs like documents, important letters Etc.
You'll get better in time.
